On Wednesday December 30th, George Jacobs Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 74 after a
battle of colon cancer. Left to mourn with fond memories his wife, Marie and children; Travis
(Nancy),Geraldine, Tracy (Trevor) ,Glenda (Tom), George (Jackie), his grandchildren;
Casandra (Gregory), Jordan (Meghan), Krista, Alexis, Madison, Jasmine, Ethan, Ryan,
Paige and Grayson, his Great Grandson; Jace; as well as his brothers and sister and many
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Geoge was born November 29th,1946 to Charles and Emma (Freake) Jacobs.
George was a loyal and dedicated fisherman of Fogo Island Co-op. He began fishing at the
very young age of 12 and he fell in love with the love of his life Marie (Cull) of Shoal Bay,
they were inseparable. From there George fished on The Esther Marie, The Silver Foam and
The Atlantic Prince and he dearly loved fishing alongside his two sons, Travis and George
Jr. He was an avid church goer and was a very respected gentleman who always had a
smile on his face and treated everyone like family. George loved his game of hockey
whether it was watching the Montreal Canadians with family or playing on ice and he spoke
highly of his last game playing alongside the Montreal Canadiens Alumni team. That was
one of the highlights of his hockey days.
George idolized his family and supported each and everyone of them by giving
advice, compliments and telling them how proud he always was. He was a man who left
behind an imprint in so many lives, he surely will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the Jacob family for your huge loss. George was a gentle giant, who was a friend to any who met him. The beautiful obituary clearly stated the essence of George, “a very respected gentleman who always had a smile on his face.“ He was a hard-working man who was a great role model to many, as seen in the fine children that he and Mrs. Jacobs raised. To all of George’s family and close friends, may God bring you peace in your time of sorrow.

I was sad to hear of George's passing. Although it has been many years since I moved away from Fogo Island, there are still those pillars of the community that are fondly remembered and who stood out for their warmth and wonderful personalities and whom we have now lost. George is one of those men. Sending my sincere condolences to all of George's family and friends. May the great memories you have of George help heal the grief in the days to come.

I was shocked and in disbelief to hear of George’s passing... so much that I had to text George Jr., to verify, which he did. I respected this man from the first time I met him and will always be grateful to have know him for 12 years.. He was a great mentor to his sons Travis and George and they were great fishermen because of him. I do not need to repeat all the attributes of this man as they are well documented by the people who knew him best on this website. My condolences to misses Jacobs and all the family. I will always remember you George and there will now be a great void on Fogo Island. May God Bless you and your family George until we meet again.
